Ketamine IV Therapy for Depression & Anxiety

Ketamine IV infusions avoid many of the side effects of oral medications. Commonly-prescribed antidepressants and anti-anxiety pills often take weeks or months to start working. They can also cause persistent drowsiness, insomnia, digestive issues, low libido, and noticeable weight gain. Instead, our patients often experience results in a matter of hours or days.   Since 1985, the World Health Organization has listed ketamine as one of its top essential medicines. While the FDA approved it as an anesthetic and analgesic around 1970, many “off-label” uses are still being discovered for this versatile drug. Promising studies began in the 1990s and recent clinical studies continue to prove its success in relieving symptoms of severe depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, fibromyalgia, and other serious conditions. In fact, the FDA just approved its use in a new nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression in 2019. We are one of the first centers to provide IV Ketamine and have been providing IV Ketamine since 2013.

“The ketamine, I’ll be honest, had us a little scared and sounded a little out there. But after the second day, my son was calmer and less agitated. By the third infusion, it was as if this horribly dark cloud lifted that had been following him around for months. … It felt like we were witnessing a miracle.” – H.S., Denver

How Does Ketamine IV Therapy Work?

Ketamine IV therapy works by increasing brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF). BDNF is a growth factor in your brain that is creating new neural pathways that have been damaged by debilitating depression, chronic stress, and pain, etc.  Ketamine can restore healthy neural pathways and promotes the development of healthy neurons.   Here are some of the most common scenarios where we prescribe Ketamine IV therapy to treat depression, anxiety, or other disorders:

  • If your current medication(s) is no longer working,
  • If you are suicidal or otherwise incapable of functioning,
  • If you need immediate relief faster than traditional medicine can provide,
  • If you’ve had a mental health disorder for a substantial length of time and haven’t yet found a therapy that works.
  • If you are also struggling with unrelenting symptoms of PTSD, OCD, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, and other serious conditions.
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • If you prefer and frequent IV treatments over daily oral medications or have experienced intolerable side-effects with oral medications.

How Do Ketamine Infusions Interact With Other Treatments?

Ketamine IV therapy is innovative in that it can act either as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other therapies. If you’re already taking an oral medication, we’ll most likely have you continue your prescription during your ketamine infusion series. Many clients find their existing medication works better after ketamine therapy and don’t feel the need for further ketamine infusions. In other cases, our providers may recommend periodic ketamine treatments after the initial series.  If you haven’t yet started oral medication, ketamine therapy can often provide relief quickly. The benefits of ketamine therapy are long-lasting for the majority of our client

Did you know? Ketamine can act as a “reset” to the body and neural systems, enabling previously ineffective medication to work again.
